project 8 | implementation of cloth bags in grocery stores
We need to implement cloth bags in shops! How about a petition suggesting the use of cloth bags and the DISPELLATION of plastic bags as well as the alternative for trashbags.
We want to start with Hyperpanda in festival city as it is in the viscinity of our school. We could set up a stand at both entrances to Hyperpanda and begin selling cloth bags. This is one of ecubed’s goal for the yea 2008-09.
We would:
- Sell material bags
- Pass out brochures
- Sell posters
- Give out badges with our logos on it
- Spread awareness
We firstly would need sponsorship for the printing of the material bags as well as permission from the Hyperpanda management.
We should at the same time recognize and praise those stores which already provide the option of material bags:
- Magrudy’s (very fashionable and VERY cheap! with good incentives)
- Spinney’s (offers it although it is slightly pricy)
- I have heard Carrefour offers it but so far I have seen no evidence
- Geant has already started pricing plastic bags

There is already so much going on, we just need to add our efforts and energy to the movement.
