green week

Starting the 9.March.2008 we will have GREEN WEEK.

An entire week devoted to making all our students aware about Climate Change and Global Warming. Youth are the future. And we are making sure we take full advantage of our young minds, we are capable of so much. And to let all that go to waste would be a shame.

The Schedule is as follows:

Sunday 9th

Monday 10th

Tuesday 11th

Wednesday 12th

Thursday 13th

Exhibition Day

We will be having a display set up in the cafeteria showing information and displays about Global Warming and its effects. It will be held in cafeteria 1.

Each (preferably) form class will be taken out for 10 minutes each from both schools to see the exhibition. We will set up a time table for each year and class.

Picture Day

We will have a whole school photo like the one of the Emirate Flag, except it will be in formation of a large e3 sign. All students are required to wear green shirts or blouses on this day, with trousers or skirts of their own choice.

Assembly

There will be a very short assembly on Global Warming as well as its impacts and effects followed by the showing of a movie after their break time in the Cafeteria. It is for years 3-6. The movie is ‘Happy Feet.’ The cost is 10Dhs for the movie + snacks + drinks.

Seconday School

Assembly

There will be an assembly during PSHE for secondary students. This will be informative about the widespread and direct impacts of climate change. We will be having 2 guest speakers: one from EDA and the other who works with green implementation in construction.

Paint It

Students from year 3-7 will be organized to paint their own ideas of environmental awareness in behaviour and everyday actions. They will paint on recycled cardboard paper and a mural will be put together for each year group in both the Primary and Secondary schools.

Free Dress Day

Non-uniform day. The cost is 10 Dhs.

It will be free dress so students choose what to wear themselves. Culture conscious clothing must be worn.

Also, there will be a bake sale during break time, collaboratively organized with the DIS Student Council.

Pizza party for winning form class in cafeteria last period. Both primary and secondary.

We really hope this will be successful in not only educating our students, but also inspiring them, to make a difference, take a stand, to think outside of themselves and look at the big picture.

Lots of preparation has gone into this, and the results seem to be looking very bright.

Let’s make it happen.

  1. Instead of filling those young minds with baseless propaganda, why not spend the time teaching them reading, writing, arithmetic, and science?

  2. Really, baseless propaganda? Well, teaching them science and maths is good and all, yet what are these children going to do when they no longer have classrooms to learn in because everything has been flooded?
And who says teaching them about this is going to interfere with teaching them their other core subjects? Our environment is just as important to us as education.
Keep an open mind, such harsh comments shouldn’t be so blandly handed out.

  3. Hey, nice website, but i just want to point out that there is a typo in the writing next to the table. It states, “We really hope this will be successful in not only education our students…” education should be “educating”. Just wanted to point that out.
    Have a green day!
